Optimus Prime: 80s To The New Millennium

When the Transformers aired in 1984, who would've suspected we would be still talking about a cartoon about humanoid robots which can transform into autos and airplanes in order to save the world? Nevertheless what began being a Weekend morning kid’s cartoon ballooned into a multi-million dollar business over the decades. You might suggest that the prosperity of Transformers may be tracked through the evolution of the franchise’s most well known character, Optimus Prime.

Prime In The Beginning –

Action figures are absolutely nothing new to the toy marketplace, and there is little indication these days of the pattern slowing down in the near future. Optimus Prime toys together with other products along those lines, have persisted to stay a staple in the toy boxes and Christmas wish lists of little kids since the early 80s.

The original Optimus Prime action figure included a unique trailer to hitch onto it whenever Prime was in his "truck mode". The rig’s front grill plate has ever since then become synonymous with the "good" transformers of the collection, the Autobots. Casual admirers might not be aware that the original title for the Prime toy was "battle convoy", but eventually the name was changed by comic book writer/editor Dennis O'Neil. The standard was now established for the subsequent collection of Prime figures.

Pre-Millennium Prime –

Transformers started to change during the nineties after having a decade-long run at the head of the pack. Should you look back at the Optimus Prime merchandise, this change becomes slight yet detectable. The action figures themselves began to sell as non-transformable gadgets oddly enough. Many included components like combat platforms and other gadgets, literally. One model of Prime in 1993 included an LED pulsating fist.

Prime additionally went through what you might refer to as a remodel in the early nineties. One line of toys changed the head of the Autobot’s standard red, white and blue look in favor of a red-black paint job. The change turned out to be brief however since by this time Prime’s picture had become identified with the Transformers franchise. The series would actually spin off different off shoots of different transformers in an attempt to keep up with the changing times and capture completely new audiences.

Prime According to Hollywood –

Michael Bay’s reinvention of the Transformers series came out in 2007, beginning yet another demographic of youth to the adventures of Prime and his Autobots vs Megatron and also the devious Decepticons. Other transformers might have transformed their forms, but Prime stayed essentially the same Prime that lasted the test of time. Other Autobots progressed into the newest versions of sports and utility autos, but Bay’s Prime kept his big rig transforming same at it's been since the 1980s, although with the latest CGI special effects.
